4th of July Printable:DIY Sparkler Favors

The Fourth of July is one my favorite holidays! Ironic, considering as a young child I use to be terrified of fireworks. To this day, sparklers will be the closest things to a firecracker that you will ever see me light. I blame my lack of desire to play with pyrotechnics on the post-traumatic stress I endured as the only girl smack dab in the middle of 2 brothers who use to taunt me with those paper poppers {they had me convinced as they chased me around that they may have accidentally mixed them up with a box of the big boom-pow firecrackers!} Go ahead feel sorry for me. Fortunately, I grew up into an adult who LOVES a great, festive firework display and I can’t wait to “ooh” and “awe” next Monday at our town’s holiday festival!  In honor of 4th of July I thought it would be cute to put together some sparkler favors and I’m sharing the printable with you. After all, fun is always in style!

Download sparkler cards here. You’ll want to print on heavy cardstock so that once you add the sparklers the favor isn’t flimsy. There are 5 cards on a page and each card measures approximately 2 inches wide & 8.25 inches long.

Take your scissors and cut out each card. Cut a small horizontal slit with an x-acto or craft knife above and below the solid blue border. Weave your sparklers through the slits.

You can place the favors in a bucket or basket and add it to your cookout décor. Once the sun starts to set the kiddies will know exactly where to run to for some good ‘ol traditional holiday fun!

See aren't those fun? What are some of your favorite 4th of July childhood memories?

Friday's Dose of Delight {No.7}

I love humor.  I love sarcasm.  I love not taking life too seriously.  Humor, is my therapy.  Humor, at times, is my defense mechanism when I’m feeling like life gave me the short end of the stick.  I believe from the bottom of my heart laughter is the best medicine.  I believe humor is good for the soul.  Most importantly, I believe when I have a gut-busting 10 minute laugh that I’ve completed my ab exercises for the day.

Will Ferrell Quote Print from Table Tonic

Wise, modern words from good ‘ol Willy! Table Tonic put together this fun printable. Check it out here. By the way I just recently started following the movie comedian on Twitter and he’s puh-reety funny!

Summer Inspiration: When Life Hands You Lemons, Set Up a Lemonade Stand!

Summer is the season that reminds me the most of my childhood. Does anyone else get that nostalgic feeling once the temps start to rise? Perhaps, it’s the season’s laid back vibe that reminds us of the carefree activities we use do as children, like bike riding and setting up a lemonade stand!

Lemonade stands are the perfect way for kids to learn about business and even philanthropy if they plan on donating their earnings to those in need. I’ve gathered a little inspiration for putting together the su-weetest lemonade stand on the block!

{Image via Hello Naomi}

First, you need your lemonade!  You can never go wrong with a Martha Stewart recipe; find inspiration here.

{Image via Sweet Tooth}

Life can never be too sweet. Don't just stop at the lemonade; bake goods sell as well! Recipe here.

Every savvy business owner knows they need to set themselves apart from the competition. I bet the lemonade stand down the street won’t have these cute pink lemonade labels! Download for free here.

The amazingly talented twins from the Lolly Jane blog have the right attitude about boosting your drink sales; spruce up your stand!  Can you believe they found this little gem for $4 at a garage sale?  Shows what a little creativity can do!

Aren't those all swell ways to throw one suh-weet lemonade stand?

Now that we have the kid's out of the way let's discuss an adult themed lemonade stand.

I think this sums it up best!

Happy summer to both the young and old!

DIY Recycled Bottle Flower Vases: 4th of July Inspiration

Hoorah! It’s “officially” summer today and that means 4th of July is right around the corner. It’s time to decorate with the good ‘ol red, white, & blue. So how many of you have invested one, two many paychecks into a little store called Bath & Body Works? Yep, that’s what I thought. Well, here’s a super simple way to recycle those toiletry bottles!

Supplies
3 empty lotion or body wash plastic bottles
Spray paint {Red, white, and blue if you’re going for the patriotic theme}
Flower buds {real or faux}
Goo Gone
Rinse your empty toiletry bottles with warm water. Use Goo Gone to remove the labels and adhesive glue. Wash the bottles and let air dry. Then take your cans of spray paint and start spaying away. My bottles took 3 coats before I got the desired coverage. Once the paint has dried, fill the bottles with water and place your flower buds inside.

I added a little red & white twine to my flower vases. Twine makes anything look cute; except for possums, nothing can make those things look cute.

I love how they bring a modern twist to the traditional colors of the good 'ol USA.

How do you incorporate the holiday color into your home décor this time of the year?

Summer Makeup Trends:Confessions of a Makeup Junkie

Hello Delightfully Noted fans! I want to take a quick moment to thank Jennifer for inviting me to be a part of her blog. She shares so many inspirational tips and tricks with her readers, and that’s partly why I’m here. I’m Melissa, and I work as a freelance makeup artist. Before I took the leap and ventured out to start my own business, I did everything from working as a beauty advisor in a small cosmetics boutique, to a regional makeup artist for a retail giant, and most recently I worked as a MAC artist for several years. Collectively, this experience has led me to where I am today, a small business owner who caters to brides, photographers, and women just like yourself who are seeking a little guidance in makeup application.

There are so many topics I’m excited to explore with you: how-tos, product recommendations, makeup FAQs…but I figured since this is my first post, I’d keep it pretty simple and relatable to the season: Summer makeup trends. If you’re anything like me, when I roll out of bed on an 80 degree morning, the most effort I want to put into my appearance is throwing on a sundress, pulling my hair into a pony tail, and if I’m feeling adventurous, slathering on some coconut scented lotion. However, with just a little more effort, and about five minutes of your time, you can have an on-trend summer look put together before you head out to enjoy the weather.

{Image via becomegorgeous.com}

First, start with clean, dry skin. Apply a tinted moisturizer all over your face. This will help keep the skin hydrated, provide a sheer tint of coverage, and usually some level of UV protection. Just about every cosmetic line carries tinted moisturizer these days, so look for one in your price range whether you’re a drugstore or a department store beauty shopper. Secondly, apply an all-over color stick to your cheeks and eyes. My absolute favorite product for this is, hold your giggles…the Orgasm multiple stick by NARS cosmetics

Not only is this a long-wearing, multiple use product, but the subtle coral color is right on trend for this summer, and it’s flattering on all skintones. Apply several coats of Maybelline great lash waterproof mascara, still a #1 seller, and only about $7 at your local drugstore. Finally, apply a sheer tint of lipstick with an SPF in a fun summer shade, like Clinique High Impact Lip Color SPF 15.

{High Impact Lip Colour SPF 15 from Clinique $14.50}

Et Voila! A fresh faced, five minute, makeup application, that’s ready for the beach or dining on the patio of your favorite local café. So what do you think? Simple as pie, right?

What are your summer must-haves in your makeup bag?

Friday's Dose of Delight {No.6}

Don’t you ever wonder what life would be like with out the Internet? Gasp. Could you imagine? I know my life would be lacking a lot of inspiration. I seriously can spend hours {and sadly I do} just stalking perusing blogs, social media, and shopping sights taking in all the creativeness this world has to offer!  There are so many things that catch my attention that it’s hard for me to narrow it down to just 2 things every week for my “Dose of Delight” series.  I’m pretty sure the amount of links in my Favorite’s folder can wrap the world twice.  So here’s two delightful things that I’m gaga about this week!

Have you seen this dinnerware collection at Target? First off, if you ever visited my shop Delightfully Noted then it doesn’t take very long to see this turquoise blue is one of my favorite colors! This collection gives off that cool, beachy vibe and I love the tye-dye effect it’s got going on.  Too bad I have no more room in my kitchen cabinets for these delightful dishes!

No Sew Sand Dollar Pillow from Crafts & Sutch
Speaking of beaches, how about this awesome pillow from Crafts & Sutch?  Goes right along with the Calypso collection doesn’t it?  You’re going to think it is even more awesome when I tell you it was designed with a bleach pen.  Bet Clorox never thought of that when testing their products! See full tutorial here.

Cheers to a delightful weekend! Happy Father's Day to all the Pops out there.

Sneek Peek: {NEW} Series "Confessions of a Makeup Junkie"

I’m super excited about today’s post because I get to introduce a new series starting here at the Delightfully Noted blog!  From day one, I knew I wanted to share my corner of the web with other uber talented women-not saying that I’m uber talented but let’s be honest I can make a mean piece of toast. Melissa Stewart, a makeup artist, who recently dived head first {curled eyelashes and all}into the world of entrepreneurship is one those talented type of gals. I am beyond delighted she agreed to join me in my crazy endeavors here at DN {yes, I’ve become too lazy on typing out my full biz name}.  I’ll be the first to admit I’m a major girly-girl and I love my cosmetics but now that I run my own business I can barely keep up with laundry let alone the new beauty trends.  That’s where Melissa comes into the picture! She’ll be joining us every 3rd Monday of the month for her guest series “Confessions of a Makeup Junkie”. Yep, that’s right she’s kind enough to share all of her makeup magic with us! I’ll let her introduce herself next Monday {be here or be square} but in the mean time I want to share some of her gorgeous work.

Meet Melissa, the "makeup junkie". See people this is why you want to make sure you drop by next Monday! She just may be able to pass on her beauty through some kind of weird osmosis thing a ma jiggy.

She’s done everything from fashion shoots….

to weddings......

to everyday wear!

Isn't her work just amazing?

Join Melissa next Monday for her first post "Confessions of a Makeup Junkie".  I hear she's going to be sharing some summer makeup trends.  Just in time for the rising temps! Make sure to stop by and welcome her to the blogging world.

June's Crush of the Month: Pretty Packages

I’ll be the first to admit pretty packaging persuades me.  I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say it attracts your attention as well. Think the power of the Tiffany’s blue box.  Sure Tiffany & Co sells luxury goods but admit it that trademark robin’s egg blue box evokes strong, giddy feelings doesn’t it? I’ve wanted to revamp my packaging for Delightfully Noted for quite some time now so I have been wasting spending lots of valuable time perusing the Internet for packaging inspiration.  I guess you can say I’m a little obsessed as in I've actually dreamed about my packaging 2 nights in a row this week.  I know-get a life Jennifer!

Panzanella Wax Bean Salad

I think most people, like me, enjoy eating lighter in the summer.  There’s something about eating a bowl of chili and 90 degree temps that doesn’t mesh well. You know what I mean? I’m constantly on the look out for new versions of traditional cold dishes and the other day while flipping through my recent Fitness magazine {yes, reading it does count as exercise} this Panzanella White Bean Salad was calling my name.  The hubby "claims" he couldn't find white beans anywhere so I adapted and turned it into my version of a wax bean salad. The dish is perfect for summer; light but filling. You can enjoy it for lunch or as a side salad for your next cook out.  My favorite part, of course, is that it is SUPER simple to put together!

Ingredients

2 cans of drained wax beans
½ cup of halved grape tomatoes
½ cup of chopped cucumbers
2 tablespoons of minced basil
2 tablespoons of diced red onions
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 tablespoons of olive oil
2 slices of toasted whole-grain bread or croutons

*Mix all ingredients; add salt and pepper to taste.

Panzanella is a type of Italian bread salad typically made with chunks of day old bread, however, I was looking for something a little crunchier and added some croutons.  It was a great decision because the croutons really did add some delicious texture to the mix!

What's your favorite summer salad?

Friday's Dose of Delight {No.5}

Sigh.  It’s Friday.  We’ve had a rather long 2 weeks dealing with a family emergency so I plan on taking full advantage of this weekend to relax and bask in the great outdoors.  Today I am sharing two fab finds in this week’s Friday Dose of Delight.  So let’s get on with the show!

Wendiland

This little shop over on Etsy is hip, modern, and oh so much fun looking!  Wendiland sells terrariums and other garden décor.  I have to admit since I can kill a houseplant just by looking at it {you didn’t know I had superhuman abilities did you?}, the idea that these plants are zero maintenance is quite enticing!  Check out the store here.

I quickly learned after posting my free Retro Father’s Day download that the world loves their printables! I am also a huge fan of all the freebies floating around out there including this argyle business card from How About Orange. This design comes in 3 different colors and  is perfect for business owners, bloggers, or even mommies! Download here.

Hope everyone has a safe and delightful weekend! Don't forget today's the last day to enter for your chance to win a $50 gift card!  Enter here.
